Let’s skip ahead eighteen years.
While at the University of Texas at Austin, I spent five years on the staff of the Texas Travesty, the largest college humor publication in the nation. The unique, meritocractic structure of the Travesty taught me every aspect of magazine production. Writing, illustration, photography, ad sales, distribution — I did a bit of everything, even spending two proud, lucky years as the Travesty’s editor-in-chief.
After graduating in May, 2005, with a BA in psychology and a BS in radio-television-film — at UT, radio and film are considered “sciences,” while psychology is merely an “art” — I spent a year working in an office, applying to various graduate creative writing programs and filing their all-too-speedy rejection letters.
Nuts to this, I told the voice in my head, and my friends and I started Four Kitchen Studios.
Primary, I’m a writer, editor, and designer. Some of my writing and graphic design—mostly parody and social satire—can be found in a handful of rhetoric and language arts textbooks published in the U.S. and Canada. (Weird, right? But true.)

My personal blog. It’s updated approximately once per geological epoch. - Todd.Nienkerk.com
My online portfolios and résumé. Bear in mind I do all contracted work through Four Kitchen Studios.
I spend far too much time indulging unhealthy obsessions with radio documentaries, This American Life, and the jaded wit of Rolling Stone columnist Matt Taibbi.
